Snapchat, founded in September of 2011, is currently one of the most popular social networks in the world, and one that is truly unlike the others. When the app was originally created, it was born with the name Pictaboo. 3 months later the app was rebranded as Snapchat, kickstarting it to become a worldwide sensation.
A few years later, in 2016, a new video sharing app called TikTok was born. The company currently has 1000 employees. TikTok has not only created a space where laughs are generated daily, but the app has financially supported many people who have created content that is widely popular to the public. The app has become so immensely prevalent to the lives of people throughout the world.
The two apps share some similar features but are also very different. Snapchat was created five years prior to the creation of TikTok, but TikTok currently has more than twice the total number of monthly active users.
In terms of demographics, 90% of Snapchat users are between the age of 13 and 24, while only about 41% of TikTok users are aged between 16 and 24. Snapchat has had a consistent growth throughout its years. For TikTok, the number of U.S. adult users grew 5.5 times within only 18 months. Both Snapchat and TikTok users are very diverse and are used worldwide. Chinese users account for 80% of the total time spent using TikTok, and 64 million users use snapchat daily in Europe. Other places where Snapchat is well-regarded are Ireland, Saudi Arabia, and Sweden.
For Snapchat, 77% of its users say they use the app about once every day, and 50% say that they use the app multiple times a day. However, 90% of TikTok users visit the app multiple times a day.
Unsurprisingly, Snapchat’s revenue for 2019 was $1.72 billion, while TikTok’s 2019 revenue was $176.9 million. Both apps share such a unique way of making people laugh. In fact, 95% of Snapchat users say that app makes them feel happy.
Both Snapchat and TikTok are great ways to market a business. However, 32.7% of U.S. marketers are on Snapchat, while only 4% of U.S. social media marketers use TikTok. This percentage is expected to grow considering how fast the network is growing. Taking advantage the social media marketing services can help your company prioritize what networks to engage with, whether you are a startup business, or a company with several years of experience.
